Federal Criminal Defense

Effective Defense of Federal Court Charges

Many misdemeanor and felony offenses can be charged in either state or federal court. Federal criminal defense is a much more challenging task than representing clients in Virginia’s circuit courts or general district courts.

Unlike many criminal defense lawyers, the attorneys of Stone, Dinkin & Amirshahi, PLC, represent clients in both state and federal courts. In fact, other attorneys frequently refer clients who are facing federal charges to our law firm.

If you are facing charges in the Eastern District of Virginia or the Western District of Virginia, it is important to speak to an attorney who is experienced in defending against federal charges as soon as possible. Please contact Stone, Dinkin & Amirshahi, PLC, for a free consultation about your case. We can assist you at every phase of the legal process.

At the Grand Jury Hearing

In the federal court system, the grand jury takes an active role in investigating a case before deciding whether to return an indictment. If you have been subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury, we can often determine whether you are being targeted in a criminal investigation or whether your cooperation is being sought as a witness in an investigation.

Our advice prior to the grand jury hearing sometimes allows clients to entirely avoid an indictment — the formal charge of a crime.

At Trial

If you have already been indicted, you still have rights and we will protect them. We are thoroughly familiar with federal court procedures and have effectively represented clients charged with all types of federal offenses, from white collar crimes to drug crimes.

We also work to minimize the negative consequences to clients in the sentencing phase of the process, advocating for parole instead of incarceration, for example.

Do you suspect you are being investigated by a federal agency, such as the IRS, DEA or FBI? Have you been indicted for a federal offense or charged with a parole violation? We need to talk. Please contact Stone, Dinkin & Amirshahi, PLC, for effective representation in federal court cases.
